* How to use the Event Chat
When the page first loads, you'll see a message at the bottom of the chat window saying "Trying to connect to the chat server. Please wait ...". This indicates that the chat interface is
attempting to connect to the chat server so communications can resume. Please wait till it tells you that you are connected to the chat server, then you'll be ready to go.
How do I know who's on?
In the chat interface, look for the USER LIST. Any members joined in the chat will be listed there.
How do I add a user to my Friends List?
From the USER LIST, click the user that you want to add, then right-click and select "Add to Friend's List". If the user isn't already on your Friends List, he/she will
be added right then and there. To view your Friends List, click the COMMUNITY PROFILE button above the chat interface (this button is only available to logged in users), and you'll be able
to bring it up from there.
What does the statuses mean?
The first status you see on the right is the SERVER STATUS. This indicates if the chat server is on and ready for communications. If the chat server is OFF, you will not be able to send
any messages, and you won't be able to view any text from the chat itself. If the chat server is ON, the chat continues as normal and subject to any restrictions and modes that are established
for the current chat.
The second status you see is the CHAT STATUS. This indicates the mode the current chat is in. If it indicates that its in FREE CHAT mode, anything you type in the MESSAGE TO POST textbox will
go directly to the chat window. This is what the chat will most often be set to when no special events are going on. If the CHAT STATUS indicates that the chat is MODERATED, this means that
anything you type in the MESSAGE TO POST textbox will be treated as a question and sent to the moderator for further review. It will not show up in the chat window. Moderators will then filter
the questions being sent and pass them along to the speaker. This mode is set when a guest speaker is scheduled to join the chat
to talk to the MyHorsePlayer members. Guest speakers will be scheduled on occasion to give us inside tips, handicapping pointers, or talk about horse racing in general. Make sure you visit
our
Events Calendar to see our upcoming speakers.
How do I send a message
Well first ... you need to be logged into the MyHorsePlayer.com website. If you go to the chat page and you're NOT logged in, you will only be able to view the chat in progress. If you want
to participate in the chat, you will have to log in with your MyHorsePlayer credentials at the top of the webpage. If this is the first time you've visited the MyHorsePlayer community, you'll
first be asked to setup your community profile. Your community profile is used to distinguish you from other members in the community. Just select an avatar, and if you decide you want to use a
different name in the community instead of your MHP username, you can set that up in your profile as well.
Once you're logged in, and have your community profile set up, you can join the chat and get involved. You'll see your avatar and username at the top-left corner of the chat interface.
To send a message to the chat window, simply type it into the textbox where it says "MESSAGE TO POST", and either hit ENTER, or click the SEND button.
NOTE: You may have to click the MESSAGE TO POST textbox in order to set focus and type your message.
What does the sound notification do?
This switch turns on and off the notification sounds in the chat. If the switch is OFF, all sounds coming from the chat interface will not be played. If you turn the switch ON, you will hear
a sound notification when a user joins the chat, sends a message to the chat window, or logs off the chat. This is useful so you can minimize your browser and work on something else on your
computer. If you hear a sound notification coming from your speakers, you know that there is activity in the chat room, and you can bring your browser back up and see what it is.
NOTE: Make sure you have your speakers on in order for the the sound notifications to work.
* Our Event Chat is currently in BETA status. This means that we are aware that there are bugs to be worked out. Knowledge of these bugs will be listed below:
- You sent a message to the chat window, but it doesn't show up. This is due to a chat server crash. If this happens please use the contact us page to send us an email and we'll get the chat server running as soon as possible.
